About Us

Sky’s family portrait from 2023

The idea of Moonbow was born from the desire of Geoff and Sky Marietta to revatilze the historic Downtowns of Kentucky’s coal communities.

It began when they moved back to Harlan County in 2015 after living for 11 years in Boston. At that time, there was no place in town to get a cup of coffee & do some work using wifi, other than McDonalds. From this need, a simple idea was born: find a vacant and unused historic building and find a way to put in a coffee shop.

From that simple concept, Moonbow has grown to three locations in Harlan, Corbin, & Williamsburg. Each location has adapted to serve community needs, so each is a bit different. Each has a unique team that brings their own strengths and skills that has shaped what is offered.

What all have in common is our mission to create Main Street magic through unique food & retail experiences. In our restaurants, we make healthy, delicious food from scratch, as well as our own small-batch ice creams. We sell locally made items in buildings that were built, and renovated, by folks in the neighborhood. And if you stay in one of our Air BnB’s, you will find locally sourced furniture, books, and art. We are proud of our Appalachian heritage, and we invite you to come and enjoy what makes us unique at Moonbow.
